Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away March 16, 2017 at the age of 89 years. The son of the late Tomas and Concepcion (Martinez) Valtierra, Adolfo was born October 7, 1927 in Indiana Harbor, Indiana. He moved to Mexico as a young child where he was raised by his grandmother, and returning to the United States as a young man. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on July 22, 1952 and courageously served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 26, 1954 with the rank of Corporal E-4. He was employed by General Motors Grey Iron plant retiring after 40 years of service. He was a self-taught past time electrician, mechanic, and loved working in landscaping for many years. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and has previously been a member of St. Joseph Church where he and his brother Prudencio “Lencho” Valtierra worked landscaping upkeep for many years. He was married to Alvina Landeros Soto for 60 years and she survives him.
Surviving are his wife Alvina Soto Valtierra; children, Alvina P. Hubert, Eduardo (Barb) Ortiz, Silvia Valtierra, Dolores Valtierra, Adolfo S. Valtierra, Ernesto Valtierra, Raquel Valtierra, and Guadalupe Valtierra and many nieces and nephews and a very special niece Teresa Ornelas also survive.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Cristina and an infant daughter Silvia; 3 sisters, Maria Munoz, Carmen Munoz, Idofonsa “Felipa” Mendoza; brothers, Prudencio “Lencho” Valtierra, and Jesus Valtierra; an infant sister, Maria; and infant brother Adolfo
Funeral Service will take place 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 4, 2017., with Rev. Fr. Frank Voris officiating. Interment will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors accorded by Carrollton VFW Post 1859.
Friends may visit with the family at Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave. on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday April 4, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
