Beloved mother and grandmother passed away March 30, 2017 at the age of 83 years.  The daughter of the late Pantaleon and Victoria (Landeros) Soto, Alvina was born March 1, 1934 in San Marcos, Texas.  She married Adolfo M. Valtierra on January 21, 1957 in Saginaw and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary 2 months ago. Mr. Valtierra preceded her in death 2 weeks ago on March 16, 2017. Alvina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  She enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with family.  She loved her church.

Alvina dedicated her life to her family and was concerned about their well-being.  She had a great sense of humor and loved flowers, especially roses.  Her memory will be cherished by her children, Alvina S. Hubert, Eduardo S. (Barb) Ortiz, Silvia S. Valtierra, Dolores S. Valtierra, Adolfo S. Valtierra, Ernesto S. Valtierra, Raquel S. Valtierra,; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Victoria Gonzalez; and 2 sisters, Paula S. Caudillo and Petra S. Mirelez, also survive.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Silvia S. Valtierra and another daughter, Cristina S. Valtierra; by sibling brothers, German Soto, Placido Soto, Gregorio Soto, Rufino Soto, and Alejandro Soto; and sibling sisters, Manuela S. Davila, Chavela S. Flores, Josefina S. Gonzalez, San Juanita S. Galvan, and by infant twin siblings.

Funeral Service for Alvina S. Valtierra and Adolfo M. Valtierra will take place 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Frank Voris officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. 

Friends may visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
