Lois E. McMackin

June 23, 1927 ~ December 19, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Passed away December 19, 2017 in Bradenton at the age of 90. The daughter of the late Carl and Evelyn (Walker) Peshick, Lois was born June 23, 1927 in Saginaw. She was a graduate of Saginaw High School and later Kirtland Community College and was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married Homer Dawson January 11 1947 and he predeceased her January 3, 1957. She married Willard F. Musolf January 25, 1958 and resided in Oscoda. Willard predeceased her October 2, 1987. Lois was later married to John E. McMackin Jr. on August 21, 1989. They made their retirement home in Maine and later in Bradenton, Florida.

Lois was a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, initiated into Bridgeport Chapter, No. 441 in 1945. She Joined Pine Tree Chapter, No. 264, in Oscoda in 1958 and served as its Worthy Matron several times. When Pine Tree closed, she became a member of Tawas Bay Chapter, No. 71. She affiliated with Mount Zircon Chapter No. 142 in Rumford, Maine in 1989. In 1966-67, she served as Grand Committee Member of the Candle Committee for the Hiller-Wiseman Grand Family, Grand Chapter of Michigan, Order of the Eastern Star. She received the honor of being appointed Grand Martha for the Arnold-Johnson Grand Family, Grand Chapter of Michigan, Order of the Eastern Star in 1970-71. She was a Past President of the A-I-A Association, and a member of the Michigan Past Appointed Grand Officer (PAGO) Association. Lois was active in supporting the Masonic youth organizations, serving many years on the Advisory Board of Oscoda Assembly No. 81, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She also served as Mother Advisor of the Assembly.

Lois had a deep love for music which she passed on to each of her four children. She was an accomplished pianist and soloist.  She sang at many weddings and Eastern Star Ceremonies.

Surviving are her husband John; children, Dr. Gary A. Dawson and wife Julie Baglien of Onondaga, MI, Marna L. Dawson Mucha and husband William of Oakham, MA, Mark B. Dawson and wife Betty of Augusta, ME, and Gayle A. Musolf Lyons and husband Sheldon of Suffield, CT; stepchildren, David M. Musolf, Keith W. McMackin, Mark E. McMackin, and Nancy E. McMackin Tena; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by great-grandson Odin B. Dougherty.

Graveside services and burial will take place January 20, 2018, 11 am, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery chapel.  Memorials to Tidewell Hospice, 3355 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34205; and The Cure Starts Now supporting pediatric cancer research at www.thecurestartsnow.org
