Robert E. Rae, age 69 of Oscoda passed away suddenly September 18, 2019. The son of the late Bernard and Elaine (McKenzie) Rae, Bob was born January 20, 1950 in Saginaw and was a 1968 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. From 1969 to 1971 he served with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He then attended Saginaw Valley State University, Delta College and Northwood Institute before joining the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department where he served as Deputy, Narcotics Investigator, and as an Administrator during his 32 years of service and retiring as Captain for Saginaw County Sheriff Department. He also graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy program in Quantico, Virginia in 1994. After retirement from the Sheriffs Department, Bob moved to Oscoda to manage the Iosco County Emergency Communication System from 2005 until his retirement in 2017. Bob also served on various law enforcement positions.
Bob loved his family and many friends. He enjoyed sunrises on Lake Huron, sunsets on Torch Lake and in the Caribbean, riding his bike, caring for his beautiful lawn, watching football, apple pie, Kayaking, and playing golf. We will all miss him in our lives. Bob was married to the former Sharon Winiecke in 1978 and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2000. He later married Deborah Weir and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2014.
Mr. Rae is survived by his son, Casey Rae of Saginaw; 3 sisters, Karen (Roy) McNish, JoAnn (Forrest) Hayes, and Nancy (David) Neal; 3 nephews, Jeff, Jason and Jim; 4 nieces, Kristine, Brittany, Victoria and Jennifer; 8 great-nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lori Bublitz.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eric R. Rae on August 20, 2013; and stepmother Katherine.
Funeral Service will take place 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave. in Saginaw with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Emrich officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw with full military honors. Friends may Visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until time of service.
