Agapito "Pete" Garcia Rivera passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at his daughter's home in Haines City, Florida. He was 88. Pete was born August 18,1933 in Victoria, Texas to the late Gregorio and Maria (Garcia) Rivera. On May 3rd, 1952, in Shelby, Michigan he married the love of his life, Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Alfaro. Pete was a great provider for his family. He was a coremaker at General Motors Grey Iron for thirty years. Pete LOVED baseball. Especially when his boys were growing up. Always finding time to gather the neighborhood kids to play. That eventually lead him to coach Little League baseball. You would always find him watching baseball or football on TV. Pete loved to sing and listen to Mexican music. Most of all, Pete loved to tell his grandkids this story of how he rode with Jesse James and Billy the Kid! He loved his family. Pete's advice he always told his kids and grandkids was "Don't Trust Nobody!"
Pete leaves behind to cherish his memories-five sons and two daughters: Dolores R. Nunez, Haines City, FL., Agapito "Gordy" Rivera, Jr., Haines City, FL, Valentin A. Rivera, Carrollton, MI., Ruben A. Rivera, Saginaw, MI., Reinaldo "Ray" (Susan) Rivera, Lucedale, MS., Eddy (Lisa) Rivera, Sun City Ctr., FL., and Carmen (Gerald) Zamora, Carrollton, MI. As well as eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Pete is survived by one sister, Mary Leyva Rivera Castaneda and several nieces and nephews. Pete is preceded in death by his wife Maria G. "Lupe"Rivera. His parents Gregorio and Maria Rivera, a son in law, Angel M. Nunez, and 6 brothers and 4 sisters: Maria (Lupe), Manuel, Louisa, Santos, Vicenta (Chenta), Thomas, Filomeno, Jose, Clemencia, Rufino.
Honoring Pete's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Pete's life will take place at 11.00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 17,2022, at Living Faith Family Ministries, 1902 Stone St. Pastor Frank and Rita Gallardo will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Wednesday from 10.00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Mt.Olivet Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made with the Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N, Michigan Ave, Saginaw Ml.
