Dean F. Alderton, age 77 of Saginaw passed away July 20, 2026, at home following an extended illness. Son of the late Jack and Dorothy (Franz) Alderton, Dean was born March 21, 1949, in Saginaw.

In 1967 Dean was a member of the first graduating class from St. Stephens Catholic High School, and because his last name began with the letter A, Dean was very proud to be the first student to receive his diploma from St. Stephen High School. He later attended Western Michigan University before returning to Saginaw where he was employed by the Diocese of Saginaw with the Cemetery Division. Some time later, Dean and his brother Michael purchased a convenience store at the corner of Bay and Cooper in Saginaw which they operated for many years. He also looked after his mother’s wellbeing in her later years.

Dean was an avid history buff who enjoyed gardening, taking care of his dogs and watching U of M Football, Detroit Tigers Baseball, and Detroit Lions Football games.

Surviving are his children, Shannon Alderton-Schicht and Ashley Alderton, 3 grandchildren who were dearly loved by Dean, Anna Jacklyn Schicht, Eve Veronica Schicht, and Lucas John Michael Talik, and several cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorothy, his brother, John Michael Alderton, and dear friends, Tom Schneider, Gary Pratt and Joe Blanke.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brendan Stoney for his caregiving and friendship toward Dean.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday August 11, at the home of Shannon Alderton, 2742 N. River Road, Saginaw, MI 48609
