Henry R. Gomez, age 77 of Saginaw passed away suddenly on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. Son of the late Enrique and Isabel Gomez, Henry was born August 7, 1943 in Saginaw. He was a 1962 graduate of Saginaw High School. He enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1963 and was awarded an honorable discharge on October 28, 1966. He met his bride, the former Guadalupe Olivarez Gonzales and they were married September 21, 1968 in Saginaw. Henry was employed by General Motors as an electrician at the Grey Iron Plant for 31 years prior to his retirement in 2005. He frowned upon wasted energy and sloth. He was a motivator and go-getter. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan and back in the day he enjoyed dancing and later on playing golf and bowling. He liked listening to classical music, oldies, and Tejano music. Henry was very close to his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and fur babies and celebrating family events with them. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish and former member of American Legion Post #500.
Henry was one of few Hispanics in the U.S. Military to operate Nuclear Guided Missile Systems.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Guadalupe; 5 children, Elisa (Carlos) Gloria II, Richard (Renee Delgado) Gomez, Alexander Gomez, Lupita Gomez, and Xavier Gomez, and Fiancé Jessica Herrera; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Rogers Gomez, Daniel (Gloria) Gomez, Gilbert (Minerva) Gomez, and Robert Gomez, and several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral Service will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 3680 S. Washington Road in Saginaw with Fr. Gerry Pehler, OFM Cap, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded by VFW Post 1859.
Friends may visit with the family at Cederberg Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave in Saginaw on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
The family will recite the Rosary 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
