Kay Katz Obituary

Kay Carol Katz of Saginaw died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 9, 2020 at the age of 84 years.  She was born February 28, 1936 to Leo and Leah (Wilhelm) Mavis in Saginaw. Kay married the love of her life Richard D. Katz on April 24, 1954 at St. Stephens Catholic Church. They just celebrated 66 years of marriage. Dick survives her. She was a member of The Saginaw Club, and past Germania Club member where she enjoyed bowling. She was a member of St Dominic Parish former St. Stephens Catholic Church.   Kay was a dedicated housewife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping at Jacobson’s before its closing, everyone knew her there, and later became acquainted with the staff at Macy’s, her second favorite shopping venue. When not shopping, she enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards with her friends, family, and husband.  She spent time with her sisters at Bingo. Kay also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and enjoyed winters in Florida. During the summer and fall they would tour Northern Michigan, visiting the Casino’s with their friends.

She is survived by her seven children, Carolann (Raymond) Villarreal, David (Brenda) Katz, Jennine (David) Dankert-Brietzke, Debra (James) Franz, Mark (Lori) Katz, Theresa Clark, and Mary Catherine (Gregory) DeShone; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 on the way in October; she is also survived by her sister Shirley Sikora, and 1 brother James (Lena) Mavis and many nieces, nephews and friends.She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Patricia Browning and son-in-law John A. Dankert in 1996.

Private Funeral Service will take place 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave. in Saginaw with Fr. Steve Gavit Officiating, Entombment to follow at St. Andrews Mausoleum witnessed by the immediate family. Visitation and prayer service will take place Tuesday at the funeral led by Fr. Patrick O’Connor. We will adhere to protocol, and safe distancing due to Covid-19.A Memorial Mass for family and friends in honor of Kay will take place at St. Dominic Parish, (St Stephen Catholic Church) at a future date. Date and Time will be announced.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Dominic Parish in Saginaw.
