Maria Cantu, age 92 of Saginaw passed away April 3, 2023, at Edgewood Assisted Living Center in Saginaw. Daughter of the late Eusevio and Luisa (Gutierrez) Trevino, Maria was born May 24, 1930 in Harlingen, Texas. She married Ignacio Cantu II on August 22, 1947, in Texas and they later moved to Saginaw Michigan, where he was employed by Saginaw Products and Maria was a homemaker her entire life and was devoted to loving and watching her family grow. She was of the Catholic faith. Maria enjoyed listening to music and dancing.

Surviving are her 5 children, Benito Cantu, Lou Cantu, Aurora Barron, Ignacio (Kim) Cantu III, and Marta (Chris) Sanchez; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, Sons-in-law, Robert Renteria and Dan Duval, and many nieces and nephews including Adelaido Cantu and Rosa Fulgencio.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband in 2019, and by 4 children, Juanita Renteria, Javier “BB” Cantu, Alicia Duval, and an infant child, a grandson Benito Ignacio Cantu, her daughter-in-law Sylvia Cantu; and 4 brothers, Carlos, Raymond, Felix, and Luis Trevino.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11th at Christ The Good Shepherd Parish (St Helen Catholic Church Site) with Rev. Father William Rutkowski officiating. Interment will be Thursday April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery next to her husband.

Friends may visit with the family at Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave on Monday April 10th from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
