Katz, Richard D. “Dick”
Saginaw, Michigan
Richard D. Katz of Saginaw died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 17, 2020 at the age of 85 years. He was born August 30, 1935 to Thomas Moon and Rita Moon- Katz in Saginaw. Dick was later adopted by Daniel Katz. He married the love of his life Kay C. Mavis on April 24, 1954 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, she preceded him in death on May 9, 2020. They had just celebrated 66 years of marriage. Dick truly felt the emptiness of her after her passing in May, and we truly believe he was not going to spend another Holiday without her. He said that Kay was his baby.
Dick was one of the founders of Remer Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning in 1957, and continued working until his retirement in 2020, he was very proud of the company that was created.
He was a member of The Saginaw Club since 1977 (43 Years), he thoroughly enjoyed his monthly stag nights with the boys and the Honest John Birthday Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Fordney Club, and past Germania Club member. He was a member of St. Dominic Parish former (St. Stephen Catholic Church) and was avid daily church attendee. He was on many committee’s and boards thru the years, St Mary’s Hospital, Covenant Foundation, MPMCA Board, State Plumbing Board serving over 10 years, and the Harvey Randall Wickes Foundation. Dick received contractor of the year Award in 1991.
Dick enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and enjoyed winters in Florida. During the summer and fall he would tour Northern Michigan with Kay, visiting the Casino’s with their friends.
He is survived by his seven children, Carolann (Raymond) Villarreal, David (Brenda) Katz, Jennine (David) Dankert-Brietzke, Debra (James) Franz, Mark (Lori) Katz, Theresa Clark, and Mary Catherine (Gregory) DeShone; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild on the way in June; he is also survived by his sister’s Mary (Joe) Pasak of Florida, Donna (Jon) Gitchell of Saginaw and 2 brothers Mick (Mon) Katz of Florida and Timothy (Marcy) Katz of Saginaw and many nieces, nephews and friends.
His life was reflective on one of service, service to his family, service to the industry he loved, and service to his community. He will be deeply missed by all.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister’s Delores Gibson, Marilyn Pogue, and his brother Joe Katz of Florida, and son-in-law John A. Dankert in 1996.
