Thomas Charles Woodrow, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to his heavenly home on August 11, 2021. Born in Saginaw on May 9, 1931, to the late Joseph and Wilhelmina (Scherzer) Woodrow, Tom’s life was defined by service to God, his family, and his country. He was baptized on August 22, 1931, at Holy Cross Church and was confirmed on March 25, 1945, at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Tom was a decorated soldier in the US Army having served honorably in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam as well as at posts in New York, Texas, France, Germany, and Italy. He joined the Army in 1949 and retired in 1976 as a Supervisor in the Explosive Ordinance Corp after achieving the rank of SGT Major. Tom married Violet Neumeyer on April 8, 1956; she predeceased him in 2011. Tom is also predeceased by a sister Shirley Marie Woodrow, brothers Donald and James Woodrow, sister-in-law Mildred Woodrow, brother-in-law Robert Conner, mother and father in-law Frieda and Herbert Neumeyer, and nephews Donald and Darrell Woodrow.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children Shirley (David) Roberts, Michael (Katherine) Woodrow and Wendy Woodrow; grandchildren Michelle (Wayne) Seeds, Erika (Nicholas) Kauffeld, Kelly (Glenn) Booth, Joshua (Barbara) Woodrow, Jacob (Caitlin) Woodrow, Claire Woodrow, and Hannah Woodrow; step grandchildren Nicole (Juan) Luna and Brian (Samantha) Ramey; as well as sisters-in-law Elaine Conner, Darlene (Larry) Hair, Donna Woodrow; fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17th at St. John Lutheran Church Amelith, 1664 Amelith Road, Bay City. Pastor Kurt Eichinger will officiate. Interment will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Monday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army, and Bay County Veterans Council.
