Velia A. Gomez, age 49 passed away June 19, 2024, at home after a brief illness. Velia was born February 14, 1975, in Saginaw. She had been employed at Maria’s Restaurant in Saginaw for many years, Maria Gomez from Maria’s Restaurant was like a second mom to Velia. Velia moved to Bay City earlier this year. Velia enjoyed cooking, catering, cleaning, and spending time with her grandson, and her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by 2 sons, Michael A. (Alexis) Gomez and Antonio M. Rodriguez, and 1 grandson Santos Gomez, her siblings, Esperanza Gomez, Leticia Gomez, (Raymond Rivera), Martin Ortiz, Jose (Octaviana Lopez) Ortiz, and Casey Gomez, her father Manuel Ortiz II, Step siblings, Terry Zamudio, Denise Zamudio, Louis Zamudio, and a special friend, Yolanda Perez, and close friend Chole Jiminez.

She was preceded in death by 2 siblings, David Gomez, and Manuel Ortiz III, and by her mother, Maria Estrada Ortiz.

Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday at Cederberg Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave. in Saginaw with Pastor Mary Garcia and Deacon Larry Gayton officiating. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
